 Budget and Research PrioritiesAfter a period of operating under flat budgets between fiscal years 2004 and 2008, NCI received a 3% increase in its annual appropriation for fiscal year 2009. Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) NCI received an additional $1.267 billion in funding for fiscal years 2009 through 2010. NCI's primary goals in allocating Recovery Act funds are to fulfill the mandate to preserve and create jobs, and to fund the best new science.

The federal government fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th.
